IWP 2008 Summer Institute
Teaching Writing and Teacher Leadership

The IWP Summer Institute is widely known for effective literacy instruction and facilitative leadership. Teachers of all grade levels and subjects enjoy learning with us and bringing ideas back to their classrooms and schools. The educational landscape has changed radically in the last few years, with pressures from many directions. However, current research and outstanding teachers’ practice continue to guide us toward what works in schools and classrooms.

Topics

  • Learn engaging, practical strategies for teaching writing and reading, from classroom workshops to reading comprehension strategies
  • Plan for balancing in-depth instruction with standardized test expectations
  • Identify strategic teacher leadership approaches that can help guide schools toward richer, more meaningful, and more effective literacy learning
  • Experience learning as a process of renewal with like-minded professionals
